Production Assistant - Volunteer
KCRW

Weekly volunteer production assistant with KCRW's flagship morning music show, Morning Becomes Eclectic. Totally a "behind the scenes" role working directly with the host and producer of this internationally known program. KCRW is a community based non-profit public radio station housed at Santa Monica College and provides an oasis from my financial practice each Tuesday morning. I also get to meet and listen to cool, current, known and unknown music artists. Plus, I get my name announced on the air at the end of each show. http://www.kcrw.org/

Further background & interests

A graduate of the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, and a California CPA. Mr. Shapiro is a native of New Jersey and moved to Los Angeles to marry his college sweetheart. Having a daughter in 1992 helped Mr. Shapiro realize that there is more to life than work and began a consulting career in 1994 - mainly working with venture backed start-up companies and other small businesses. In the years since, he has helped over 40 companies with their financial management on either an interim CFO/Controller role, or assistance on a specific project basis.

To help maintain a balance in his life beyond career, Mr. Shapiro is an active member of the California Society of CPAs, former board member of the LA Chapter, State Business and Industry Committee, and past chairman of the LA Members in Industry Committee for the Society. He volunteers each week with KCRW-FM’s Morning Becomes Eclectic, and has raised almost $300,000 for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in just 6 years with his family (since his daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes). He is on the Board of the Los Angeles Chapter of the JDRF and is currently Treasurer. He also sits on the Advisory Board for Santa Monica College’s Business department.

He still enjoys bike riding to clients as often as he can, and playing basketball a few times per month
